Aaron brings the Androci the Emperor's ultimatum: he will trade the lives of
Titus' sons for Titus' hand. Titus sends the hand.

A messenger returns Titus' hand and his sons' heads with a scornful message.
Lucius is banished. Titus is too shocked to cry. Tamora's revenge seems
complete.

But not quite ... Lavinia finds a way to communicate. She prints her
attackers' names in the dust. Now the Androci know "who done it" they
vow revenge although they realize how dangerous revenge will be.

Some time later Tamora is delivered of the Emperor's baby, but the child is
unmistakably Aaron's. They kill the nurse and decide to switch babies.

All the misfortunes seem to have driven Titus mad. He petitions the gods for
help.

Saturninus is annoyed at Titus' public petitioning and orders him arrested.
Then he hears that Lucius has raised an army (of Goths) against him. Tamora
promises to intercede.

Lucius is addressing the Goths who are now his allies when his soldiers
bring in Aaron and the baby whom they have captured. (Aaron could not bear to
kill his own child.) Lucius proposes to hang them both.

Aaron confesses to masterminding the murder, the rape, the frame-up, etc.
Then Aemelius comes in with a message that Saturninus is ready to parley.
Realizing that Aaron and the child could have value, Lucius spares their lives.

Meanwhile, Tamora, dressed as Revenge, and her sons, dressed as Rape and
Murder, call on Titus. But Titus isn't as helpless as Tamora thinks he is. He
plays along and invites Tamora and Saturninus to a feast.

When Tamora leaves, the Androci pounce on Demetrius and Chiron. Titus cuts
their throats and orders pastries made of their heads.

Dressed as a cook, Titus greets his guests and serves them a meat pastry
dish.

Then he kills Lavinia, so she no longer has to live with her shame.

Saturninus, shocked, stops eating and asks why he did that. Titus tells him
that Demetrius and Chiron raped and mutilated Lavinia and have died for their
misdeeds — and Tamora is eating them.

Then Titus kills Tamora.

Saturninus kills Titus, then Lucius arrives — and kills Saturninus.

Aaron and the baby are brought forth as Lucius and Marcus explain to the few
people still left standing what has happened. Aaron (but not the baby) is
condemned.

The people proclaim Lucius the new emperor.

That's it. Murder, mutilation, rape, cannibalism, human sacrifice —
there's no other play quite like it in the canon (thank heavens!).
I do these cartoon versions of Shakespearean plays prior to
taking my own students to see live theatre. The cartoons give them an idea of
the plot of the play so they don't feel lost. After 10 minutes or so, the
students catch on, enjoy the play, and my job of supervision becomes much
easier.
Sorry I can't put the "mainstream" plays (Hamlet,
Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Julius Caesar et al) on the Web. They are copyright
to J. Weston Walch, Publisher and are
available in SHAKESPEARE MADE EASY: AN ILLUSTRATED APPROACH.

This site was prepared with help from Bill Kempthorne, Colin
Welch, and Dale Halcrow, the Principal, who tolerates my obsessions. All I do is
the dachshund and Shakespeare parts. I hope it helps you and your students or
children to enjoy the Bard as much as I do.
